Downhill performance for pin bindings

14.12.2022

The light pin bindings were designed for the ascent and therefore the properties for the downhill and safety aspects less considered. Today, however, bindings are in demand which also make the descent a pleasure with safety. To this end, the system should en-sure not only reliable release but also good power transmission and, no less importantly, the natural flex of the ski.

The transmission of power from the boot via the binding to the ski mainly takes place at the rear. In alpine bindings, the heel is pressed onto a plate with the stable heel jaw, which is connected to the ski and transfers the forces directly to it. In pin bindings with a pin heel unit, the force cannot be transmitted directly. Due to the system, the heel is held by the inserts in the boot and the pins of the binding without direct contact of the boot sole with the binding. In most pin bindings, the sideways release occurs at the rear. Because the heel unit constantly rotates back and forth due to the sideways release, the traction in the turn is interrupted accordingly.

In order for the ski to unfold its performance, it must be able to flex as well as possible under the binding during turns and flex freely. Only this allows edge grip along the entire length of the ski and a large contact surface. If a binding has too little or even no length compensation for the ski when it is bent, it will not be able to flex sufficiently under the binding and its performance will be hampered accordingly. When choosing a ski, it is important to ensure that it flexes optimally ac-cording to the body weight and skill level of the skier.

Downhill performance according to need

Reliable release in any skiing situation provides safety. This is especially true after tiring ascents as well as for good power transmission in the following downhill. With direct power transmission and full edge grip over the entire length, the skis are safe, easy and effortless to control.

Whether it is a high Alpine experience, steep couloir, powder snow, sporty ascents or gentle nature experience, ski tours are as individual as ski tourers themselves. This wide range of needs is matched by functionality and material requirements. With unique technology, the Fritschi bindings offer outstanding downhill characteristics in the various areas of use with light weight, and with the Tecton certainly those of alpine bindings.

The Tecton and the Vipec Evo have integrated lateral release at the front. This allows the construc-tion of stable, non-rotating heel units with little to nearly no loss of power. The long dynamic path of the release for the toe of the shoe prevents unwanted releases without locking and also ab-sorbs lateral shock. In the lightweight Xenic, power is transmitted directly through the system’s widest heel support in the category. The horizontale movement of the front pin levers prevents pre-releases without blocking. In all models, the length compensation of 10 mm, unmatched in pin bindings, allows the natural flex with edge grip along the entire length of the ski.

Tecton – light, powerful and safe on free touring

The Tecton will not only impress powder fans due to its downhill performance excellence. It holds securely on the very steepest slopes and only releases if it really has to. And it is just as good for climbing. Its low weight and ease of use make powder slopes effortlessly accessible.

Heel unit remains laterally stable

With the non-rotating the alpine heel jaw, the flow of force in curves is not interrupted by a rotational movement as with other pin bindings.

The boot remains fixed

As an absolute exclusivity, the rail engages in the back of the boot, secures it in the center and prevents a loss of power.

Direct contact boot-binding-ski

The heel jaw is pressing the sole of the boot firmly against the heel plate, which is directly connected with the ski, and provides consistent direct traction.

Downhill made easy

The elasticity of 10 mm length compensation, unrivaled in pin bindings, allows the natural flex of the ski even under the binding. This allows the ski to fully develop its properties, remains agile in every situation and provides secure grip along the entire length of the edge.

Releasing only if necessary

The long dynamic travel of 13 mm for the toe-cap prevents pre-releases without blocking and cushions any lateral impact.

Vipec Evo – safe and comfortable on ski tour

The Vipec Evolution brings significantly more performance in every phase of a ski tour with lots of reserves for challenging terrain and difficult conditions. It manages this through its extremely easy handling and emergency release for ascents, lots of power for descents and a reliable release only if really necessary.

Xenic – light and safe on ski tour

The Xenic enables long ascents and difficult routes to be mastered with less effort to allow you to reach the peaks more quickly. Unique in the lightweight category, it also makes descents a real pleasure. With a secure hold at all times, secure ski guiding and reliable release in any situation.

Direct power transmission for easy ski control

The power is directly transmitted to the skis via the core tower integrated in the compact heel unit. The large diameter of the core tower allows the broadest support of the system in this category.

Secure hold in the downhill without blocking

The pin levers of the innovative frontal unit shift horizontally and thus absorb vertically acting forces. A pre-release caused by shocks from the bottom is prevented without the need to block the system while skiing downhill.
